"This is a routine operation that takes place in close collaboration with our allies. The Armed Forces have a good situational picture of our immediate area," a press release from the Armed Forces states.
The Russian submarine was reportedly already seen in the Kattegat, where it was met by Swedish fighter jets and warships.
Vendela Kirsch, press secretary at the Swedish Armed Forces, says that the ship has not violated Swedish territory, it is said to have been traveling in international waters.

According to Kirsch, the submarine is currently being tracked, but she does not want to go into exactly where it is currently.
Do you know what the submarine's purpose is?
– I can't go into that right now, but we have a close eye on it, she says.
The Armed Forces also do not want to comment on where they believe the submarine is headed, but say that they, together with allies, will follow it continuously across the Baltic Sea.
– We have the capacity to be out quickly and be out for a long time, that's part of the collaboration, says Kirsch.
