We find that women who had access to legal abortion before age 21 were less likely to have children at an early age, while their completed fertility was essentially unaffected. We also find that they were less likely to marry early, and in the long term they were less likely to get divorced. We find a positive effect on high school graduation rates, and no effect on college attendance. We do not find significant long-term effects on labour supply or earnings, but we do provide suggestive evidence of a positive impact on overall life satisfaction almost 30 years after the reform.
